He rediscovered his true vocation when he became an Industrial Arts teacher at Clinton High School, passing on his skills to a new generation. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Lloyd. She later earned her teaching certificate from the University of Illinois and began teaching in the Decatur Public Schools.
As a lifelong athlete, he took great joy in coaching at Clinton. She is survived by 2 nieces, Mary Herman and Shiela Shiels of Colorado and many great nieces and nephews. In her career as a teacher, Phyllis taught at Lakeview School, the Adult Continuation Center and then as an English teacher at Decatur Mac Arthur High School until her retirement.
