It brings to mind a night stroll by the Seine, in November, a quiet chilly late Fall weekday. To the last two reviewers who have longevity issues: in my opinion Coco Noir smells extremely similar to Chance by Chanel but Chance lasts longer.
When nothing huge happens but you are in Paris, and that’s enough. So when you attach the "Noir" to the Coco Chanel name I'm expecting a fragrance that is darker, richer and deeper, as is suggestive of the name. I would have enjoyed a dark spicey rose, patchouli gourmand type of fragrance, sadly this is more of a gray shadow, a lighter version of Coco. This fragrance is a shadow to Coco rather than noir, should have named it Coco Ombre. The initial spray is different but the dry down is pretty close.
I've had a decant forever and just sprayed it and WOW!!!! For me it's like "Mother" of Coco Mademoiselle (which sits right next to Noir on my perfume-shelf), as some notes are the same. is way lighter and 'easier' & I can wear it day-night / summer-winter; NOIR is more 'serious', deeper and heavier. I decided to give this one a try instead of sticking to my tried and tested workhorses.
I love smelling my clothes & hair the next day, as it is still present and gives off the best. It might be useful to you, that I also: The only legitimate reason for this to be called "noir" is that it makes the bottle look bloody gorgeous. Sadly I can't seem to get any performance out of this.
I struggle to wear Ropions "Portrait of A Lady" sometimes, because it reminds me of someone layering the same heavy perfume on musty clothes for several years. The fact that 4 people likened this to Shalimar Souffle de Parfum shows that people will find similar notes in things, and because of this say 'wow! The poor longevity makes it too expensive for its price considering the beast that Madamoiselle and even Chance (the original one) are. Other people can smell it on me, but only very faint.
I also have the hairmist and bodycream of it because I loved it so much.I am completely in love with the fragrance and the way it makes me feel when I wear it, but there is so much to be desired quality-wise.While its sheerness is part of its character, I wish more than anything that I got more than a couple of hours of performance on both skin and fabric alike. The black, the gold and the Chanel logotype is just so aesthetically pleasing to me, and will be the figurehead of any respected vanity. Forget 9-5, this doesn't even make it to the lunch hour!Anyways, this is my absolute favourite from the Coco fragrances, and I think it's because the lemon balances out the patchouli in this perfectly. Barely lasts 3 4 hours on my skin (and clothes) and I'm being generous. I purchased a small bottle of 35ml and honestly, I can 't smell it, it is undetectable on my skin.
